[fiction] My Mother is A French Fry and Further Proof of My Fuzzed-Up Life

By: Colleen Sydor
“My mother is a french fry. Seriously, No shiz. She found her calling after applying for a part-time job at Burgers N’ Frize one day and came home dressed as a gigantic carton of french fries.”
The first things I did after I finished this book were: stare at the front, look at my reflection in the plastic clad cover, and see myself smile.
Eli is a young girl who has issues with her mtoher. She hates her, she’s embarrased by her, and she wants to love her—though she knows she can’t. Her sister is dead, it was a crib death and it bothers her; so she doesn’t know who to blame. She can deal with things until she falls in love with a boy named JG and her mother has a surprise for her. Eli’s mother is pregnant.
C’mon it was a sweet ending. What can I say?
The book was funny, sweet, and very real. It reminded me a lot of Peeled—that book has its fun memories (haha especialy after 5cm–like this is after Dead Friend).
“Mother is a French Fry…” (title’s way to damn long) has a strange charm to it, defying sophistication and showing what the real mind is capable of (proven by the messed up dreams–but I guess we all have our fair share of messed up dreams). I can personally relate to this book. Don’t ask. (lol).
It kind bugged me how Eli couldn’t swear. There was that part in the book where she actually did swear, and I guess that’s how you get the emotional drive–WOAH SHE SWORE :O. Maybe, my “fuq” versus “fuck” is just as bad.
Haha.
Well this get’s..
Mark: 10/10
Did you say character development, humour, and romance? I am there! :9.
